Haze (hāz), n. [Cf. Icel. höss gray; akin to AS. hasu, heasu, gray; or Armor. aézen, ézen, warm vapor, exhalation, zephyr.] Light vapor or smoke in the air which more or less impedes vision, with little or no dampness; a lack of transparency in the air; hence, figuratively, obscurity; dimness.
Welcome to the Alaskan Haze.
Goals? To provide an easy to read, understandable discussion of the goings-on in Alaska’s capital. Facts will not be ‘cherry-picked’, and data presented clearly. Our goal is to summarize what the State legislature and government agencies are doing which affects us all.
Opinions? Opinions will clearly be identified as such. Maybe you agree, maybe not. Let us know but be nice. We’re all human here, ok? Fact check what’s here. Contact us. If we’ve missed something we’ll correct it.
What’s our ‘agenda’? Getting more Alaskans to vote and more voices heard. Informed citizens become voters.
What’s the ‘story’? We’ve talked to many voters — and those who didn’t want to vote. Those that didn’t vote often said they didn’t feel they knew enough to make an informed choice. Everyone felt like so much of the information on the internet is biased — even the media (especially the media??) .
So why this site? The majority of Alaskans are independent and non-partisan. Forget the political party. Focus on the results. And, btw, who has the time or interest to read most of this stuff? Make it quick, clear, and easy. Thus — lift the haze.
Finally, there may be a bit of fun. Alaska is a beautiful place. Alaskans enjoy life. Remember to smile.
